Struggling to find the perfect book designer who actually knows what you need?
Hey, I’m Rachel!
I help entrepreneurial self-publishing authors sell more books and grow their reach by providing expert book design that speaks to the target audience.
I’m a prematurely gray-haired Midwestern girl, with tons of experience making books. When I’m not designing books, you can find me reading books, riding my horse, or being dragged along behind my dog on our “walks” (we’re working on it).
You’ve poured countless hours and your blood, sweat, and tears into writing your book. Okay, I’m being a bit dramatic, I seriously hope you haven’t bled over your book. But you get the point.

Your purpose for writing a book isn’t just to put your stories on paper for nostalgia’s sake. It’s to get your message in the hands of your audience, grow your business, and make money.
The bottom line is that you want to sell books. And you’re committed to doing the job right.
But you may have noticed the quality of the services available for self-publishing authors hasn’t yet caught up to the quality of books that are now being self-published.
Some authors who have the option of traditional publishing are now even choosing to self publish. They like the ownership, freedom, control, and potential for more revenue that self-publishing brings—rather than signing away rights to their material. For sure, both paths have their benefits, but self-publishing is the clear path for you.
The trouble is, you’ve been searching for a book designer you can trust, and the waters are muddy. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of companies and individuals offering book design services, with prices ranging from terrifyingly cheap to heart-stoppingly expensive.
It can be difficult or impossible to know if you’re really going to get what you pay for—on either end of the spectrum. And for those of you new to publishing, you may have realized by this point that there’s quite a learning curve. You may not even know the right questions to ask a potential book designer.
You feel like your fate is in their hands, and you have no idea if they are trustworthy.
I founded Printed Page Studios with you in mind.
I’m here to provide high quality book design, with packages designed to include everything you need, plus everything you didn’t know you needed. I’ve got you covered. My services are all-inclusive, and I take care of the entire design process. You have as much or as little input as you want. And I won’t surprise you along the way by making necessary parts of the process “add-ons” that cost extra money.
I’ve been a book designer for over 11 years, working for both publishing companies and individual authors. I know what is needed in the process. I include printer coordination, which many designers charge extra for, and most authors don’t realize they will need (printers don’t all have the same requirements for file setup). I also set my prices based on word count, not final page count, so you don’t have to play guessing games to figure out your total cost.
Eleven years ago, I was working as a full-time book designer for a self-publishing company. I’ll always be grateful for that job. It came at a time I desperately needed it, it introduced me to my dream career, and I made life-long friends that I wouldn’t trade for the world.
But the business model was all about numbers. We cranked out books as fast as humanly possible. I’m sure that for many authors, having a bare-minimum design at a bare-bones budget was fine, and I’m not arguing that there isn’t a place for that in the market. For many people, having their book produced as affordably as possible is what they want and need, and that is absolutely fine.
But serious authors who want to make money and grow their audience need more. And I wanted more. I wanted to hone my craft and give my best. And I wasn’t able to do that in my job. In fact, I never hit the numbers they required from us, because I’m just not capable of sacrificing quality for speed. In the end, they seemed to have no problem with that, and I became one of the go-to designers for VIP authors or complex books).
Six years ago, I went out on my own as a freelancer. I’ve worked with publishers, individual authors, non-profits, and businesses. It’s been an amazing journey, growing me in ways I never could have guessed.
Today, my passion and focus is serving serious self-publishing authors. I’ve realized that they are looking for guidance and clarity in the book design process, and it’s not hard to see why. In researching my competition, I mentally step into the shoes of an author who knows nothing about book design, and I set out to find a book designer. And oh my goodness, it is so confusing!
The range of prices is insanely wide, and it’s so hard to figure out what you’re getting and what the true and final cost will really be. The whole point of hiring a book designer is because they know what they’re doing, but it feels as if you have to know everything about book design to even ask the right question to hire someone who actually does know what they’re doing! Talk about a catch-22.
Don’t get me wrong, there are tons of great book designers out there. I don’t intend to spread gloom and doom. But my mission is to be a one-stop shop for all things book design. To create simple, all-inclusive packages and take care of my clients. To give them access to me, and have a real human-to-human connection through the process.
I’ll use my decade+ of knowledge and experience in the publishing industry, along with brand design theory, to craft a marketable book design that captures your target-readers’ attention and is inviting to read once they open it up.
It’s such an honor to come alongside authors and be a part of the publishing process.
