Do you often feel isolated as a book designer?
Do you wish you had a mentor or trusted community to turn to for support and guidance?
You're not alone — it turns out a lot of us feel that way!
I've been a full-time book designer for 15 years—the last decade of which I’ve been a freelancer and solopreneur. I've loved helping authors bring their visions to life.
But through it all, I've felt firsthand just how isolating and challenging this career path can be. (Thankfully, it’s equally awesome.)
That’s why I started the Book Designer Collective—an exclusive community just for book designers, where you can:
✅️ Meet and connect with other book designers in a private space—without the competition mindset
✅️ Get support and feedback from other book designers
✅️ Stop trying to do it all alone, and thrive in a passionate book design community, with people who actually get it
✅️ Grow your skills by being around a variety of designers with different experiences and strengths
Sound good?

Together, we’ll create beautiful books, fulfilling careers, and a design community where you truly belong:
Not for web designers.
Not for brand or marketing designers.
Not for general graphic designers.
Just for BOOK designers! 🥳
If you’re passionate about your career as a book designer and would love to be able to swivel your chair around and ask a colleague when you have a question, then this is for you.
If your family and friends still have no idea what it is you actually do (my extended family thought I was an editor for YEARS, even though I was always a book designer 😆), then you need design peeps to hang out with!
Inside the Book Designer Collective, you’ll find:
📚 A live, monthly group Q&A call—tap into the power of the collective.
📚 A live, monthly Designer Hangout call where you can connect and chat freely with other book designers.
📚 A quarterly resource or training added to an ever-growing library.
📚 A private discussion area with no ads or distractions, and the ability to private message one another. (We are hosted on Circle.so, which means you can access the community from your browser, the mobile app, or the desktop app.) Ask the group questions, share the latest cool InDesign trick you discovered, share your work, get feedback, talk all things book design, publishing, business, and mindset.
📚 Two 90-minute co-working sessions every month
📚 A Member-Led Meetups area, where you can schedule your own events or meetings and invite the group to join.
📚 The best part—a community of supportive, collaborative peers to learn from and travel our path with. The goal is always to create a safe environment with a vibe of collaboration and support, not competition.
Hey, I'm Rachel—book designer, entrepreneur, and dog + horse mom.
For over 15 years, I've been a full time book designer. I started as an employee and worked for two different publishers, then transitioned to freelancing in 2015, and finally founded Printed Page Studios in 2021, where I focus on working one-on-one with self-publishing, nonfiction authors (and the occasional publisher).
I've had the privilege of helping countless authors transform their manuscripts into printed books, but along the way, I discovered a challenge: isolation, a lack of peer support, and the accompanying feeling that I was flying blind—never quite sure if I was doing things “right,” but not having anywhere to turn for feedback or support.
I found myself in countless groups and trainings for web designers and brand designers, trying to adapt what I learned to the publishing industry. While I learned a lot, and much of it was applicable, I always felt like an outsider and I never fully got the answers I needed. Book design is such a unique niche.
For years, I longed for a place where I could get help, where I could connect and collaborate with other book designers. Yet I was also afraid of reaching out. Afraid I would discover I wasn’t good enough and that I’d be judged. (Besides, it’s not like I knew of a lot of other book designers.)
The Book Designer Collective is my way of turning this vision into reality—bringing book designers together to encourage and learn from one another—and I invite you to join us in building a community where we can all feel at home.
Here’s what I’ve discovered since opening the collective—there are a lot of book designers out there, and we all struggle with the same things! There’s plenty of work for us all, so let’s join together and make our lives better as we navigate this very special and very challenging industry.
When I'm not designing books, I'm likely reading a book, riding my horse, Chance, or walking my dog, Roo.
I simply cannot wait to meet you inside the community. 💫
